Western Regional Off-Track Betting is a Public Benefit Corporation with a non-profit charter serving 15 counties and 2 municipalities (Buffalo and Rochester) in Upstate New York. It began operations in 1973. WROTB operates 33 branch locations and a telephone betting service. The corporation also partners with the owner/operators of 14 tavern/restaurants on E-Z Bet facilities.
Four of WROTB’s 33 branches are “enhanced” with food and alcoholic beverage service. They include: Kim’s Trackside Tavern at Auburn OTB, Chappel’s Bar & Grill at Phoenix OTB, Amherst Turfside Sportsplex at Ridge Lea OTB and Champions Sports Bar & Grill at Wehrle OTB. WROTB offers on-track prices to customers at Batavia Downs Casino, the Batavia ITW and Tele-Theater in Niagara Falls.
OTB’s telephone betting center, Dial-A-Bet, provides customers with an account that may be accessed via a toll-free telephone number to place wagers, obtain the most recent race information, track conditions, jockey and driver changes, scratches and race results.
WROTB purchased Batavia Downs in 1998 and resumed harness racing in 2002. The facility became a “Racino” in May 2005 with the addition of nearly 600 video lottery terminals, or VLTs. Batavia Downs Casino operates 7 days a week from 8am to 4am at 8315 Park Road, Batavia. WROTB is the only Off-Track Betting corporation to own and operate a racetrack and casino.
WROTB is governed by a 17-member Board of Directors and employs about 500 people. Since its inception in 1973, WROTB has returned over $209M to its member local governments and the horse racing industry. OTB exists to serve those entities, promote horse racing and diminish the role of illegal bookmakers.
